Construction has officially commenced on Affidea’s flagship medical centre at Wimbledon Quarter, marked by a celebratory on-site event attended by key project partners and invited guests.
The official commencement was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony carried out by Martin Fraser, Irish Ambassador to the UK; Barry Downes, CEO of Affidea UK & Ireland; Noel Elliott, CEO of Elliott Group UK; and Shaun Atkinson, UK Director of Elliott Fit Out. The event was attended by the wider Elliott Fit Out project team and representatives from the design and delivery team, including Gardiner & Theobold, Scotch and Partners, Frank Shaw Architects, Shane Healy Consulting Engineers, NADS Drylining and G&H. Thanks were also extended to the team at Wimbledon Quarter for their support in hosting the event.
Opening in late 2026, the 30,000 sq. ft. facility will be the first private clinic located within a UK retail destination, delivering a new model of accessible, community-based healthcare. The centre will offer a comprehensive range of services including private GP care, minor injuries unit, advanced diagnostic imaging and specialist outpatient treatments all supported by state-of-the-art surgical facilities. Designed as a modern, single level environment, the clinic will bring high-quality healthcare services together under one roof, enhancing convenience and accessibility for the local community.
Speaking at the event, Noel Elliott, CEO of Elliott Group, said:
“This project represents an important milestone for Elliott Group and our Fit Out team in the UK healthcare sector. We are proud to be working alongside Affidea and the wider design team to deliver a facility that will make a real and lasting difference to the local community.”
Barry Downes, CEO of Affidea UK & Ireland, added:
“Today’s groundbreaking isn’t just about starting a construction project; it’s about shifting the way we think about healthcare and how it is delivered. For too long, accessing care has meant travelling to large, centralised hospital settings, often involving long journeys, complex environments and unnecessary stress for patients. This new Affidea clinic in Wimbledon represents a clear departure from that traditional model.
Our goal is simple yet transformative: to deliver high-quality, professional care closer to where people live, work and shop. We are building a future where “going to the doctor” feels less like a chore and more like a supported, local experience, seamlessly integrated into everyday life. “
The commencement event marked the formal start of works and celebrated the collaborative effort behind a pioneering healthcare development that will redefine how communities access high-quality, patient-focused medical services in the UK.
