Elliott Group appoints Environmental & Quality Director following major ESG milestones

Promotion follows a 39% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions intensity as the company continues to invest in sustainable construction and operational excellence.

Elliott Group has announced the promotion of Laura McCooey to Environmental & Quality Director, recognising the leadership behind one of the company’s most significant periods of environmental, quality and sustainability progress.

The appointment also marks a milestone for Elliott Group, with Laura becoming the company’s first female Director – a reflection of a business that recognises leadership, expertise and performance across every part of the organisation.

It follows the publication of Elliott Group’s new Carbon Reduction Plan 2025-2050, which sets out the company’s pathway to Net Zero while highlighting measurable progress already achieved across the business. Since its 2021 baseline, Elliott Group has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 39%, falling from 21.34 to 12.95 tCO₂e per €1 million turnover – a substantial improvement in environmental performance delivered alongside continued business growth.

Under Laura’s leadership, Elliott Group has advanced its ESG credentials through a range of initiatives including:

  • 75% of construction waste diverted from landfill in 2024, with a target of reaching 95% by 2027.
  • Continued certification to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, demonstrating Elliott Group’s commitment to quality, environmental management and occupational health and safety.
  • The implementation of the SustainIQ ESG monitoring platform across all projects, providing real-time environmental reporting and performance tracking.
  • The rollout of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across construction sites to reduce diesel consumption and lower emissions.

As Environmental & Quality Director, Laura will lead Elliott Group’s environmental strategy while overseeing quality management, governance, compliance and continuous improvement across the Group’s operations in Ireland and the UK.

Darragh Elliott, CEO ROI, said:

“Today, clients rightly expect construction partners who can demonstrate measurable environmental performance alongside quality delivery. Laura has challenged us to think differently. She has helped shape an approach where environmental responsibility, quality and operational excellence work together to strengthen every part of our business.”

Commenting on her appointment, Laura McCooey said:

“I’m incredibly proud to take on this role and grateful for the opportunity to build on the progress we’ve made.

“The construction industry is evolving rapidly, and sustainability and quality are becoming increasingly important to our clients, our people and our partners. We’ve achieved a great deal together over recent years, but there is still significant opportunity ahead. I’m looking forward to working with colleagues across the business to deliver meaningful improvements that support both our projects and our long-term environmental commitments.”

Elliott Group has evolved alongside the changing needs of the construction industry. Today, environmental performance, quality assurance and responsible governance are embedded in the company’s long-term strategy, supporting the delivery of complex projects across the Construction, Mission Critical and Fit Out sectors throughout Ireland and the UK.

The promotion reinforces Elliott Group’s belief that environmental performance and quality are no longer support functions – they are fundamental to delivering certainty, reducing risk and creating long-term value for clients.
