As part of Elliott Group’s commitment to health and safety, our October Safety Campaign looked at a risk that continues to pose a threat on live construction sites — Construction Dust, in particular Silica Dust.
Silica dust is created when cutting, drilling, grinding or polishing materials such as concrete, brick, or stone. Without proper control measures, prolonged exposure can cause silicosis, lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) – all preventable with the right awareness and action.
To help highlight these risks, our Health & Safety team, supported by our Communications team, produced two short educational videos that explain:
-
What silica dust is and how it’s generated on site
-
The health effects of exposure – both short and long term
-
How to control and reduce dust effectively
-
The role each person plays in maintaining a safe environment
We are rolling out this campaign across all Elliott Group sites and offices to ensure everyone has access to this important information — and we’re also making it publicly available for anyone in the industry to view and share.
Watch the videos below to learn more about how we can all reduce exposure and build safer sites.
